SEVENTEEN Labour MPs have been asked to account for their absence from the Commons in the key vote on top people’s pay when the government avoided defeat by that exact same margin. The key factor in Mrs Thatcher’s victory on the top people’s pay issue in the 2am vote was that 19 Labour MPs absented themselves after voting earlier on legislation dealing with immigration.
